Exchanging your favorite mobile apps with friends (and even strangers) has become a ritual of the new smartphone culture. Up till now if you wanted to share the apps you're buying with others, you would have to either email them or post something on your Twitter or Facebook feeds. Now, we've created an easier way to share and discover great mobile apps within your social network.
MobiHand, who powers our appstore, has partnered with Blippy, a new social-commerce site that lets customers link accounts at sites like Amazon, iTunes, and Netflix so they can show their friends what they're purchasing. We've implemented (optional) account integration using the secure OAuth methods. Which, for non-techies, means you can connect your &partnername appstore account without sharing your username and password with Blippy. The only information we share is the name and price of the apps you purchase - no other personal information is ever shared. To get started, go to [Nur registrierte User können Links sehen. ], signup, and connect to MobiHand from the Accounts page. If you'd like a preview, here are a few sample purchases from MobiHand-powered stores: [Nur registrierte User können Links sehen. ] .
Of course, you might think revealing what apps you're buying is crazy. If you're one of those people, you don't need to do anything. Just ignore this (or signup at Blippy without linking your account and just watch what others are buying). Blippy does give you the ability to temporarily turn off sharing, or to only show purchases to approved friends.
We're viewing this as our first experiment in using social-media to provide you with new ways to discover great apps from our huge and growing catalog. For users that already share loads of information on Facebook and Twitter, we think this is a fun and easy way to share information about your mobile apps. If you're undecided take a peek at the short video from our friends at Blippy, which summarizes how it works, what's great about it, and how you can fine-tune if and what to share:
